McClave Philbrick Giblin

This past Monday I stopped to see the boatbuilders McClave, Philbrick & Giblin of Mystic, Connecticut. These fellows are traditional wooden boatbuilders and experts at what they do. They are in the process of putting a new housetop on NY32, #9, Salty. While some might be tempted to use marine plywood, they are doing it to the original plans which calls out 7/8" white cedar, which is tongue and grooved and covered in canvas.

Heres the midship section.

And the work in process.

Note the soaker hose running around the perimeter of the boat and under a plastic tarp to keep her hydrated.
